An energetic teacher from Bebington High Sports College recently took part in the Liverpool Triathlon, which is part of the Worldwide 5i50 series. Rachel Symons an English teacher, swam 1.5K through the Albert Dock, (passing a few jellyfish on the way!) then cycled for 40K, before finishing off with a 10K run. Rachel was very tired and in a lot pain but managed to complete all three events in 2hours 48 minutes and 53 seconds (from start to finish including transition from one event to the other). Even though there was a strong head wind the whole way back and she had huge blisters on her feet, she would not give in and helped raise a lot of money for the (CAF)Helped Charities Aid Foundation whose official organisations are Clatterbridge, Scope and RNLI. By inviting family, friends and colleagues to donate money online via ‘Everyday Hero’ website.
The talented teacher came 10th overall in her age category and 3rd on the bike with a time of 1hr 16min 14sec. Rachel said “It was certainly a worth the effort, the event was superbly organised and a lot of money was raised for good causes”
As a result of this amazing feat she has now qualified for the World Championships to be held in Iowa, America in September.
