Students studying business studies have enjoyed two school visits to local organisations to enhance their knowledge of the local business environment. The students received guided tours of the research and development centre at Unilever and Bromborough Police station, giving them an insight into working life at real life organisations.
At Bromborough police station students were able to quiz officers and voluntary staff on their role in the police and watched demonstrations on the use of police vehicles and equipment in the road traffic department. The history of the building fascinated students as they entered the cells and the courtroom.
In contrast the contemporary, minimalist and spacious layout of the research and development centre at Unilever showed the students how modern manufacturers look to the future. The students were able to view and see some of the new technology used by the centre, including video conferencing, stain removal testing and a giant hair washing robot called ‘Tina’.
Both of the visits are part of a wider initiative to enable students to apply their business theory to real life businesses that they can see first hand.
