A selected group of students from Years 8-10 recently experienced a ‘Coffee Ceremony’ at a fellow Co-operative school in Reddish Vale, Stockport. This collaborative venture is aimed at students working together on designated projects and in this case was focused upon FairTrade.
Representatives from the Oromo Coffee Co-operative in Ethiopia shared how the crop is grown, its manufacture and how by purchasing their home grown product the benefits to the community are sustainable. New educational facilities, medical centres and transport links have enabled all villagers to improve their quality of life.
Our students were a credit to the school and promoted the co-operative values in a positive way. They even enjoyed a relaxing, authentic coffee without milk! We aim to sell the Oromo products here in school at designated events– so please support the cause and make a difference to other people’s lives.
