The students from Bebington High Sports College recently enjoyed visiting the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool, to enhance their knowledge of the black people of the Americas and the international slave trade. The visit gave them a very interesting and thought provoking experience of how people could deal and profit in another humans enslavement.
The students were told of a story which has been forgotten by too many, for too long. Students were shown some of the shackles and chains used to enslave and control the millions of people who were forcibly removed from West Africa and taken to the Americas between the 16th and 19th centuries. The students took great interest and showed sympathy and respect for what the black people had gone through.
The group were reminded of what had happened in the past in great detail as well as showing them the ways in which slavery, albeit in different formats, still exists today.
Education remains one of the most important things young people can have in hopes of changing their lives for the better and at Bebington High Sports College the students are reminded that there is only one race, the human race.
