Oromo Ethiopian Coffee Co-operative

BHSC were delighted to recently host representatives from the Oromo Coffee Co-operative in Ethiopia.

Their organisation highlights everything that is important about Fairtrade, with profits from the sale of their products improving education, health care and overall quality of life in rural Ethiopia. Three visitors spent the day in school demonstrating the traditional method of brewing coffee and furthermore stayed into the evening to greet our new Year 6 parental intake.

The welcoming aroma of the coffee and colourful native costumes of our visitors prompted many people to sample – and purchase – various types of their product.

The event was a great success and allows BHSC to establish our own co-operative here at school from September. Students will sell the coffee with any profits paid directly back to the Ethiopian organisation – emphasising our commitment to Fairtrade and Co-operative values.
