Two students of Bebington High Sports College could well become stars of the future.
Year 11 student Emily Atkin recently came home with a trophy following her representation for the Merseyside under 17’s team in the inter-counties cross country in Birmingham, which has just been shown on Sky Sports 3.
In the summer Emily competed in the under 17’s women’s event in the National young Athletes league, Northern Senior League, Junior League and Cheshire Leagues at the 300 metre distance and improved by over 2 minutes.
During the Autumn Emily ran in the Wirral Multi-terrain senior race over 4.5 miles with fellow student Lauren Brett who eventually won the race. Emily took part in 5 races in the under 17’s Cross country league before running in the Merseyside team inter countries cross country champs in Crofton Park, Birmingham on 5th March.
Fellow Year 10 student Lauren Brett improved her running so significantly she ran for the Merseyside under 15’s team in the English schools cross country championships in Nottingham. Last year Lauren ran on the track in the National young athletics league, Cheshire league and various other open meetings reaching a personal best of 2 minutes 27 seconds for 800 metres. She also ran in the Seaside 5ks with a personal best of 19 minutes.
The students are starting to make a big impact with their talents and are coached each Friday at Bebington High Sports College, plus attending sessions at Wirral Athletics Club, being coached by Graham Patterson.
These committed athletes are striving to improve even more and are certainly names to look out for in the future.
